Tactical Command Trainer is an advanced, industry-leading virtual reality/3D and artificial intelligence-based training system (intuitive, highly effective and proven) for fire commanders.
Tactical Command Trainer is supported by a rich library of challenging tactical fire command scenarios – including scenarios for fires in domestic, warehouse and high rise buildings, road traffic accidents, rail accidents, chemical spills and oil and gas installations.
User Requirements
- Fire services have a recurring operational requirement to train commanders to the highest possible standards of competence for a wide variety of common fire scenarios.
- Training throughout emergency services must be in accordance with agreed command doctrine, as well as being challenging, varied, consistent and repeatable.
- Tactical command training should be intuitive and easy to use, for both pupils and trainers.
- Lessons learned by candidates should be easily understood and easily retained, with opportunities for repeated lessons where further training is required.
- Tactical command training should be done cost effectively using the minimum of resources. High levels of realism should be provided using 3D and artificial intelligence, (thereby avoiding the need to use real staff, vehicles, building and equipment).
Product features
With Tactical Command Trainer commanders and trainers can:
- Choose from a wide selection of common fire fighting scenarios Tactical Command Trainer features 3D simulation scenarios covering all major fire and emergency types, with new scenarios under continuous development in conjunction with leading fire, rescue and emergency services in the UK, the USA, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East.
- Replicate realistic incident behaviours Tactical Command Trainer has an artificial intelligence core engine designed to replicate the roles of different personnel and resources at incidents. This allows the system to be objective and consistent, thereby providing an accurate assessment of a student’s performance (not that of the facilitator).
The system re-creates:
- The sounds experienced at an incident
- Fire spread
- Heat transfer
- Extinguishment
- Re-ignition
- Smoke size and direction
- Emergency Service Operational Procedures
- Equipment Operation
- Water usage and water problems
- Incident casualty behaviour.
- Incidental people interaction (concerned relatives)
- Other emergency service interaction
- Organisation’s chain of command
- Automated resource management (Sector Commander / Breathing Apparatus Main Control / Staging / Marshalling)
- - Create command realism The TCT interface replicates the types of information a fire incident commander would expect to encounter. Initially, an incident commander would rely on their eyes and ears to gather information. This is why the student initially starts with only the 3D graphics screen. They would then issue orders verbally by either radio or face-to-face (to the system facilitator). If a Command Support Unit is called and arrives, the system facilitator is able to show the student the types of information sources they would expect in a ‘generic’ command support unit: Map Board, Resource Board etc.
- View incidents from multiple viewpoints The system is supplied with a Virtual Reality View Screen. This gives a visual representation of the fireground, the condition of the fire and the fire fighting operations in action. The commander can either walk about the fireground using the joystick or, when it becomes available, operate the closed circuit TV camera located on the command vehicle. Exercise facilitators can select other participant viewpoints and literally “see through their eyes”. All participants have ‘virtual bodies’ so that they can see where other team members are located within the simulation.
- Conduct post exercise reviews The TCT system includes a unique review system that allows the facilitator to replay the exercise to students. The view from every student’s position can be seen and his or her actions evaluated. The review software has the ability to jump forwards and backwards in exercise time to show the consequences of a particular action or event. It is possible to review all information given to a trainee and then to see what action they took in response. This review log is recorded and maintained in the user records program, enabling access at any time in the future to assess students’ progress.
- Run single or multiple user training sessions Tactical Command Trainer can be used in single user or multiple user configurations, allowing for individual or group training.
- Integrate training with Command Support System and Training and Exercising System Tactical Command Trainer has been designed to work as an integral component of highly challenging and realistic major exercises, integrating with both the Training and Exercising System and the Command Support System.
Tactical Command Trainer helps fire services fulfil their training requirements with a comprehensive, realistic, effective training system that has been proven by a large number of fire services throughout the world, including most UK, Australian and New Zealand fire and rescue services. Tactical Command Trainer is the only fire training system in the world that has been validated by both the UK Fire Service College and the US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
